Authors Note: The force of duality was undoubtedly the main theme of Jekyll and Hyde. The identity of both sides was portrayed through out the story and really stuck out and made it clear how powerful each side is. For each side balances out the other demonstrating that we need both sides in our life.
All throughout history, from beginning to end, there has been a mystical force in life that I believe to be a special balance, which is good and evil. It can be found in nature, people, and philosophy. The inclinations of good and evil can be traced back from the beginning of time through philosophy and religion. People are then left to judge this duality; all individually and concurrently. Good and evil is a concept of everything on this planet; from male and female, love and hate, sobriety and inebriety, and war and peace.
People are the main apparatus of good and evil because they are the ones who have the knowledge of experiencing this conception consciously or subconsciously. The actions of people determine their will to be good or evil. Wars such as World War II were acts of evil mainly because of the intentions of genocide. The Native American civilizations were usually in peace and well-organized as in comparison to European civilizations, which had order but also had plagues and high crimes.
This concept is the basis of anyone’s character as it is my own, and has a more subtle quality to it than just being referred to as good and evil. All these conceptions have a profound effect into my philosophy of life and the avid way that it can be lived. Good and evil, and all its analogous two-fold divisions, are an immaculate structured balance in nature and the subconscious mind.
